HBO has debuted the first trailer for Imagine Dragons singer Dan Reynolds’ upcoming documentary Believer, which centers around Reynolds’ fighting to bridge a gap between his Mormon faith and LGBTQ community. “I don’t think I can think of many more opposite worlds than that of a rock star, and that of a Mormon missionary,” Reynolds says in the trailer. The film follows Reynolds as he puts together his Love Loud Festival, whose second annual edition is set for July 28.
“We want it to be a safe space for everybody to feel the love and acceptance together for LGBTQ,” Reynolds tells a newscaster in the clip. Reynolds was inspired by the concept when he began receiving a massive amount of fan mail from young LGBTQ Mormons, many of whom had been persecuted because of their sexuality. “I’d rather do all that I can with this lucky spot that I’ve been put in to hopefully put out a fire,” Reynolds adds at the end of sneak peek. This year’s Love Loud lineup includes Zedd, Mike Shinoda and Grace VanderWaal, with all proceeds going to various LGBTQ charities.
