House of Feelings isn’t just a musical group – it’s a radio show, a roving dance party, comprised of talents from NYC’s underground and helmed by Matty Fasano. The NYC-based collective shares their latest video, “It’ll Cost You,” today (Dec. 6) exclusively with Billboard.
Film critic and occasional Billboard contributor Kristen Yoonsoo Kim stars in the visuals, which she also directed and provided vocals for. Kim explains that the concept was to feature herself as “a death-like figure haunting a man,” played by good friend Jared Olmsted. “There’s a little bit of a Faustian wraparound with a chess game at a dinner table,” Kim adds, “but we also see me stalking him in every mundane moment of his life (at the movies, at the club, at the subway station, even on his telly).”
As for the aesthetic inspiration, Kim explains, “The video borrows horror movie aesthetics, but it’s also really funny and tongue-in-cheek. It started with an Ingmar Bergman inspiration but we were influenced by all kinds of European cinema. You’ll see some Seventh Seal and Persona sprinkled in there but also Derek Jarman’s Caravaggio, Peter Greenaway’s The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover, and Maya Deren’s short At Land. Plus, we got to squeeze in a fun club scene, which is my favorite thing in movies.”
