UPDATE: This poll is now closed since Harry Styles passed up the role, as of Aug.14. You can vote in our new poll for who should play Prince Eric now here and see the results of the previous poll below.
Harry Styles may have lost the Elvis Presley part to Austin Butler, but it was just announced Tuesday (July 16) that he’s in talks for another iconic role: Prince Eric in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.
The Rob Marshall-directed film recently announced its casting of Halle Bailey (Chloe x Halle) as Ariel, while Melissa McCarthy (Ursula), Jacob Tremblay (Flounder) and Awkwafina (Scuttle) are all also in talks to be a part of the under-the-sea dream.
While Styles is looking like an ideal option with his charming English attitude, we can’t help but think of other great musicians who have what it takes to swim in the magical sea. Shawn Mendes has a dashing charisma similar to Styles’, while it feels like this is a role that maybe Joe Jonas has been preparing for his whole life.
Chance the Rapper is another great option, being a father with a noted Disney obsession. Meanwhile, the BTS ARMY has been lobbying hard on social media for the Korean group’s Jimin to land the royal role. And with Lil Nas X, at only 20 years old to Halle’s 19 and with the biggest hit song in the country, he’s not a bad idea either.
Check out all the options below (or let us know who is your other pick) and vote: Which musician should play Prince Eric in the live-action Little Mermaid?
