Halsey and Yungblud paid a visit to the 97.1 AMP Radio show on Feb. 22 to talk about their latest collaboration “11 Minutes,” which also features Travis Barker, and address the dating rumors surrounding them.
Billboard on-air host Chelsea Briggs and fellow radio show hosts Edgar Sotelo and Brian Moote sat down with the pair, who spoke candidly about meeting up for the first time at a bar after Halsey “slid into” Yungblud’s DMs with a simple black heart emoji and her personal number. “I’m 24, he’s 21, I’m a cougar, I get it,” Halsey later said. They also spoke about the “organic” making of “11 Minutes.”
“We’re really similar artists,” Halsey said when asked how working with the English singer-songwriter came to be. “I discovered him really organically and I was totally blown away because I started everything in my career very organically — building a cult fan-base, creating a secret language, playing shows nonstop, touring my butt off for five years and really creating an environment that felt like a community.”
She also said that she “had a lot to learn” from the rising alt-rock artist. Yungblud said it was “mental” that Halsey got Barker to come in and lend his drumming skills, and later added that although he lead the song’s creative process, he admires Halsey as an artist.
“I love your mind bruv, I love the way it works,” he smiled.
