On the heels of part one of her Hopeless Fountain Kingdom tour, Halsey is fulfilling a dream tonight (Jan. 13) by performing on the first episode of Saturday Night Live this year.
This is her first time on the show, and it’s something she’s said is “the biggest of all dreams come true.” In the week leading up to the performance, Halsey hasn’t been shy about posting what she’s been up to while in New York (and who she’s been with). Here’s what we’re hoping to see tonight.
A Peek at Her New Tattoo
Halsey posted a boomerang to her Instagram Story on Thursday night (Jan. 11) that featured popular celebrity tattoo artist Jonboy putting some ink down on the singer’s neck, writing “sry mom.” The tattooist is popular for his minimalist designs. A look at Jonboy’s Instagram confirmed that not only was Halsey in his shop, but G-Eazy was there, too, for “Round 2.”
Could that mean…
A Surprise Performance with G-Eazy
Though G-Eazy isn’t mentioned in any of the promos for the show, it’s a pretty safe assumption Halsey could bring out her boyfriend and “Him & I” collaborator. They’ve performed together multiple times, such as on New Year’s Eve in Miami and on Jimmy Kimmel Live! back in December. Not to mention that both artists are currently lingering in the Hot 100 top 10 on their own, with “Him & I” not far behind at No. 17, so bringing them together with the moody love song on the SNL stage would make sense.
A big statement
With more celebrities speaking publicly about sexism and abuse, it wouldn’t be a reach for the outspoken, self-proclaimed feminist to make some kind of statement of her own. Just yesterday she called out Firefly for not including more women in its lineup. While musical performances on SNL are allotted only enough time for the song, Halsey could take a subtle stance in solidarity with the recent “Me Too” movement, as the attendees of the Golden Globes did, by wearing all black.
New Year, New Outfits
Halsey is known almost as well for her fashion as she is for her singing. She’s never one to shy away from head-turning outfits, like the red-and-black-striped suit with a black leather bralette that she wore on the carpet at Jingle Ball in Chicago. One of the most memorable looks from her Hopeless Fountain Kingdom Tour has been a tight-fitting sheer top and shorts, striped with sparkles. There’s no telling what she’ll bring to the late-night performance, but her revealing bodysuits might not cut it for a network show.
Cameo in a Skit
Musical guests don’t have to take part in any of the night’s skits, but that doesn’t mean they all stay away. Justin Timberlake always makes an appearance when he’s performing. Maybe the best musical cameo came when Beyonce took part in a parody of her “Single Ladies” video (which actually featured Timberlake, even though he was neither hosting, nor performing that night). Halsey isn’t one to take herself too seriously, so we hope to see her on the stage more than for her music. She’s even hinted at something special, tweeting, “I’m really excited for what we’ve put together.”
Rehearsing for SNL and I’m really excited for what we’ve put together 🙂 Can’t believe this is happening!!!
