After an avid Hailee Steinfeld fan tragically passed in a go-carting accident, the singer performed an acoustic set for friends and family at the vigil on Wednesday (Feb. 28).
16-year-old Long Islander Leah Kuczinski was supposed to see Steinfeld in concert this summer, but couldn’t go, so the “Let Me Go” singer decided to honor her during a vigil at her school, New Hyde Park Memorial High School in New York. Along with being a big music fan, Kuczinski was also a member of the cheerleading and field hockey team.
Before singing an acoustic version of her song “Starving,” Steinfeld said she was happy to honor the sophomore: “Thank you guys all so much for asking me to come here and honor Leah,” she said. “You all had so many incredible things to say about her, I really would have loved to have met her.”
i’m so unbelievably happy this was able to happen. everyone in our community worked so hard to make sure this would be possible. i couldn’t be more happy to be apart of New Hyde Park. Leah would have loved this– i hope you were jamming out with us up there in heaven Leah. thank you so much for coming @haileesteinfeld this is amazing. ———- #flyhighleah #thisisforyouleah #weloveyouleah
