Grace VanderWaal would bend over backward for her significant other, and she does just that in the angsty, acrobatic clip she created and co-directed for “I Don’t Like You,” which she released Tuesday (Nov. 12).
While looking in the mirror, she reflects on her tumultuous relationship. “Here we go again in the same story/ We follow the routine until we say ‘I’m sorry,'” she sings in the first verse. The tug-of-war of emotions she repeats throughout the chorus — “I love you, but I don’t like you” — pulls the 15-year-old singer/songwriter in every which direction, while she tugs her signature pigtails that connect her to her look-alikes on each side of her.
“I Don’t Like You” is one of the few tracks preceding her new EP Letters Vol. 1, which is due Nov. 22. “This new EP, this new era, this new me… it’s very colorful, but muted — very self-expressive, but in an understandable way,” she said about her recent singles in a press release.
VanderWaal is set to perform “I Don’t Like You” on The Late Late Show With James Corden on Wednesday.
