Genevieve, former frontwoman of Chicago indie group Company of Thieves, is returning to the music scene solo with her debut EP Show Your Colors.
Out March 10 via Wind-Up Records, fans can exclusively listen to the singer/songwriter’s first collection of uplifting power-pop anthems and evocative ballads below.
Since Company of Thieves dissolved in 2013, the singer/songwriter has been working on new material with producers like Ken Caillat (Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson), Ted Bruner (Ke$ha), Boots Ottestad (Robbie Williams), Jason Gilbert (Christina Aguilera), and Mike Green (Paramore), shuttling back and forth between her day job at a Chicago restaurant and studios in L.A.
Even with the contributions of so many different pop masterminds, this polished release still sounds cohesive and personal. Genevieve shows her range, from the resounding, fearless “Colors,” to the echo-y electro-pop of “Human Again,” to the mournful “For You” — yet they all center around the singer’s inspirational message.
“Show Your Colors is about celebrating your unique self,” Genevieve tells Billboard. “In a world where people can be quick to judge and analyze, it can be difficult to overcome the fear and express our unique truth, our unique colors.”
The empowering EP is “about standing up for yourself,” she says. “I laughed a lot while writing and recording it because the sentiment of ‘show your colors’ is so simple, yet something I struggle with every day of my life!”
