Girl groups have soundtracked dance parties for the last six decades, and while music lovers stay cooped up in quarantine, it’s time to get the at-home party started with their favorite anthems.
Billboard gave girl groups their flowers by remembering their 100 greatest songs of all time back in 2017, and The Ronettes‘ No. 2 Hot 100 hit “Be My Baby” topped the list. The Spice Girls‘ 1997 chart-topper “Wannabe” has extended beyond its shelf life with the song’s infamous “zig-a-zig-ah” ad-lib carrying onto Aminé‘s “Spice Girl” track 20 years later.
Fifth Harmony‘s 2016 “Work From Home” banger, featuring Ty Dolla $ign, became the unsung hymn of quarantine, and the streaming numbers prove it: The song received an 11% surge in streaming to 1.2 million.
