Erykah Badu Brings Soul to 8th Annual Roots Picnic: Concert Review
Now, soul legend Erykah Badu has put her own spin on the track (which itself is a remix of D.R.A.M.‘s summer anthem “Cha Cha”) with a seven-plus minute take that starts off with a fairly faithful rendition, and ends up somewhere completely different.
The track is, according to its SoundCloud description, co-written by Seven Benjamin (Badu’s teenage son with Outkast‘s Andre 3000) — and even briefly samples (perhaps just a touch shadily) Mr. Three Stacks’ iconic “Forever-ever?” off Outkast single “Ms. Jackson.” The only song on Badu’s SoundCloud, it is also apparently the first release off an upcoming mixtape BUT U CAINT USE MY PHONE (…when you need to call Tyrone).
