Ed Sheeran begins the new U.K. chart year just as he ended the old one, topping the singles and album charts simultaneously. “Perfect” (Asylum/Warner) starts a fifth consecutive week as the market’s best-selling track, while ÷ (Divide) gets its 20th week at the album summit.
Official Charts Company data shows “Perfect” staying ahead of Eminem’s “River,” featuring Sheeran, which moves back 3-2. There’s a 6-3 climb for “Man’s Not Hot” (Universal Island) by Big Shaq, a new peak in its 15th week in the top 40. Rita Ora’s “Anywhere” (Atlantic/Warner), which had three weeks at No. 2 in November and December, rebounds 8-4, as does the former No. 1 “Havana” (Syco Music/Sony) by Camilla Cabello featuring Young Thug, 12-5.
There are also new peaks for “I Miss You” by Clean Bandit featuring Julia Michaels (Atlantic/Warner), 18-6; MK’s “17” (Columbia/Sony), 23-7; and “Barking” (Polydor/Universal) by Ramz (30-8). “Wolves” (Interscope/Universal) by Selena Gomez & Marshmello (Interscope/Universal) regains its previous peak with a 20-9 climb, and “Let You Down” (EMI/Universal) by NF does the same with a 25-10 jump.
Sheeran’s album ends the week ahead of Sam Smith’s The Thrill Of It All (Capitol/Universal), which is at No. 2 again, as Rag ‘n’ Bone Man’s Human (Best Laid Plans/Sony) climbs 4-3. After the Dec. 26 opening of The Greatest Showman in U.K. cinemas, its Atlantic/Warner soundtrack races 39-4, as Eminem’s Revival (Interscope/Universal) dips 3-5.
