The final chapter in the Skywalker saga will finally hit screens next month. And while we still don’t know exactly how director J.J. Abrams plans to wrap up the nine-movie big screen space epic, as of Sunday night (Nov. 24) we got a glimpse at a few of the special cameos he might have in store for us. During the 2019 American Music Awards, a new trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker debuted featuring brief glimpses of Ed Sheeran and Lin-Manuel Miranda in full SW regalia.
The two-and-a-half minute teaser takes a nostalgic look at the intense impact the Star Wars films have had on generations of fans, fellow moviemakers and pop culture while interspersing images from the eagerly anticipated Skywalker, which is due out on Dec. 20. In addition to wookies thrusting babies into the sky, the clip finds Miranda in resistance fighter gear smiling next to Naomi Ackie’s Jannah.
It also has a blink-and-you-miss-it glimpse of a smiling Sheeran in a white stormtrooper costume, cementing the singer’s status as the go-to secret weapon in fantasy series after his legendary Game of Thrones spot in 2017.
According to Entertainment Weekly, though, a representative for Disney said that neither Miranda nor Sheeran are confirmed to appear in the film and that the footage is from “fan events over the years.”
