Contrary to popular belief, Ed Sheeran is still on Twitter — the pop singer just won’t be reading anything on the platform any time soon.
Though many people speculated that the Divide artist would be going off Twitter for good following a recent interview with The Sun, he recently actually took to Twitter and Instagram on Wednesday (July 5) to clarify that he is still active on the social media site. On Instagram, he captioned a post, “Loads of hoo-har about me quitting stuff. I haven’t quit anything, I’m just not reading anything.”
To The Sun, Sheeran recently said, “I’ve actually come off Twitter completely. I can’t read it,” based on the amount of abuse he receives. Instead of completely deactivating his account, though, he told The Sun and clarified on social media that his tweets will be shared directly from his Instagram. As for reading material, he plans to stick to reading “Harry Potter” rather than online negativity.
Lady Gaga even came to Sheeran’s defense after the interview, writing on Instagram that he “deserves all our love and respect like all humans do. I wish all people on the internet would be positive and loving and apart of creating an online community that is kind and empowering, not hateful and mean.”
