Ed Sheeran‘s puppet returned to play the role of real-life Ed in the video for his new single “Happier,” and now the ginger-haired marionette is filling his shoes once more for an interview about the video and song.
After explaining how the song came about — “It was a situation I was in where I saw someone I used to be with and they seemed a lot happier,” he simply asserted — Sheeran’s puppet continued by detailing what it was like on the “Happier” set. Even though the entire video presented a love triangle between fictional characters, Sheeran’s puppet admitted that things got a “bit awkward” — but not necessarily because of the other guy (ahem, puppet) in the picture.
“It’s quite complicated having a man’s hand shoved up your ass the whole time, but I got around that, you know?” he said. “I feel like we made a good video.”
Continuing the silliness, Sheeran’s puppet went on to quip about how “Happier” differs from “Sing” (“Pharrell wasn’t in it”) and why English hot dogs are far better than American ones — a random topic switch, but hey, when you’re a puppet of one of pop’s biggest superstars, anything goes, right?
Perhaps most interestingly, Sheeran’s puppet revealed that the (real) singer isn’t slowing down anytime soon. “I’m going to continue working on the next album and I’m going to be touring until the end of 2019.”
