With the success of “Shape Of You” and his recent album Divide, Ed Sheeran has been killing the pop game. With his infectious tracks and notable songwriting collaborations like “Love Yourself” by Justin Bieber and “Dark Times” by The Weeknd, nearly everything Sheeran touches turns to gold. And now that it has recently been revealed that former Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello worked with Sheeran on a song, Cabello is surely set to release some magic soon, too.
In an interview with Brazilian personality Hugo Gloss, Sheeran shared that he wrote a song for Cabello, and in a recent interview between Beats 1’s Zane Lowe and Cabello, the singer confirmed that the song was called “The Boy,” and would appear on her upcoming debut solo album The Hurting. The Healing. The Loving., due out September 2017.
Sheeran explained that he wrote a demo inspired by Cabello’s vocal chops, sent it to her, and then she reworked the lyrics. The two of them described the song as having a James Brown-inspired funk feel to it, and as being a standout track on the record. Sheeran even compared the song to a certain 21st century pop classic saying, “Like how Beyonce came out with ‘Crazy in Love?’ It’s just sass and big vocals. Camila has a voice that should really be shown off.”
