“I’ll see you at the ARIAs,” comments Sheeran, who is nominated in the public-voted best international artist category. “I’ve never been to the ARIAs, I’ve wanted to go every single year, so this is quite exciting.”
Sheeran has emerged as a genuine superstar in Australia. His sophomore album X (Warner) debuted at No. 1 and went on to finish 2014 as the year’s best-seller in the market; it’s now seven-times platinum certified and the set has sat in the national top 10 for 72 weeks, and counting. According to ARIA, Sheeran is also the highest-selling artist for 2015.

His slot at the ARIAs will serve as a warm-up for his full-scale tour of Australia and New Zealand, which kicks off Nov. 28 at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium. The trek, which marks his second tour of the region this year and his fifth visit in four years, will see him become the first-ever musician to perform to stadiums entirely solo.
