Today (Sept. 14) Amy Winehouse would have turned 34. Since her tragic death in 2011, her immense talent has been celebrated by many and her music remains as a hallmark of inspiration for today’s artists.
Among those artists are Dua Lipa and Gallant, who teamed up to pay tribute to Winehouse with a live cover of “Tears Dry On Their Own,” off Winehouse’s breakthrough album Back To Black. The two embrace the atmosphere of the live session, slowing down the track and sinking into the groove.
Gallant adds this collaboration to his In The Room series, in which he collaborates with popular artists to create new live takes of their songs. On the Amy Winehouse tribute, Dua Lipa told The FADER, “I loved working on this song with Gallant, he’s so talented. I was so excited to have the opportunity to work with him, he’s a true artist through and through.”
Gallant was equally excited to collaborate with Dua Lipa, saying, “Dua is a fantastic artist and I was shocked to hear she wanted to do and episode of In The Room with me. I think we created a special moment together.”
