After a week of teases and trolling, Diplo and the Jonas Brothers unveiled the video for their new collaboration, “Lonely,” on Friday (Sept. 27).
The clip kicks off with the DJ attempting to apologize to Joe Jonas over text for livestreaming his impromptu Las Vegas nuptials to Sophie Turner over the summer. “Hey joe.. sorry for live streaming the most important day of your life that u intended to keep private. hope we can move past this,” he writes though Joe’s having none of it — shoving his phone in his pocket as he jumps into the song’s first verse.
When texting doesn’t work, the cowboy hat-clad producer tries a different strategy, reaching out Joe’s brothers Nick Jonas and Kevin Jonas and even sending the middle JoBro an apologetic fruit basket.
“Everybody needs a place to hide/ This don’t have to be a bumpy ride/ I think we should be alone tonight/ ‘Cause we don’t have to be lonely,” Nick croons on the track’s country-flavored chorus while Diplo attends a rodeo decked out in a red-white-and-blue cowboy get-up. Eventually the boys decide to make up with Diplo, gathering to FaceTime him…just as the DJ’s phone battery dies.
“Lonely” serves as the third single for Diplo’s forthcoming country album under his new moniker (and given name) Thomas Wesley, following “Heartless” with Morgan Wallen and “So Long” featuring Cam. The as-yet-untitled project is expected later this year via Mad Decent/Columbia Records.
