Dinah Jane caught up with Billboard on the red carpet at the Power 100 event on Thursday (Feb. 7), where she chatted about new music and which albums by other artists she can’t stop listening to.
Speaking of new music, Jane tells Billboard that there will be “so many surprises,” so she doesn’t want to reveal too much, but she does tease that it is just around the corner. “Give it a couple more weeks,” she adds, “And then I can start giving more hints — promise.”
Asked what she has learned about herself as a solo artist, having spent time with her own voice in the studio, Jane replies that the more she writes her records, the more she has noticed how versatile her vocal range can be.
“I’ve noticed…how far I can go with how low I can go, how high I can get, and it’s just such a vocal challenge,” she explains. “I love it…I can legit just kinda do anything…it’s pretty exciting, pretty fun.”
The singer is also asked is there is a specific album the past year that she has had on repeat, upon which she names Teyana Taylor‘s EP. “I know it’s an EP, but to me it’s like an album,” she says. “It was something so complete for me personally and it kinda helped me in a way. I would also say, SZA, Ctrl. I [can] play that over and over and never get sick of it.”
