Demi Lovato has been public about her fight with bulimia and an eating disorder for years now. But now, she’s broadcasting a body-positive message to her fans: be your true selves.
On Thursday (April 5), the pop star took to Instagram Stories and Boomerang to post a series of pictures proudly displaying her body’s perceived flaws.
“Stretch marks and extra fat… and yet I still love myself,” Lovato captioned one video, in which she pinched her bare stomach. In a full mirror selfie, Lovato added, “No thigh gap for me,” repeating, “And yet I still love myself.”
The singer’s posts come at a very body-positive time in media, with Walmart removing Cosmopolitan from its checkout lines. And in an era of messages about “thigh gaps” and impossible beauty stands in media to be fought, we could all use a little Demi.
