Australian singer-songwriter Dean Lewis is stripping away every part of his current streaming smash “Be Alright” with the bundle release of two acoustic versions today (Sept. 7) via Island Records.
The five-time ARIA Award nominee capitalizes on his impeccable vocals and earnest delivery with two renditions played solely on piano and guitar, respectively. The result is a natural reformulation for a rare heartfelt tune that didn’t need to settle for playing it safe to reach mainstream appeal. For Lewis, these stripped-down interpretations make that connection even stronger.
“I love doing acoustic versions of my songs because it shows how it sounded when it was written,” Lewis tells Billboard. “I spent a lot of time on these acoustic versions because this song is all about getting the emotion across.”
Recorded in Los Angeles with producer Dylan Nash, the tracks reveal an effortless, exposed vulnerability in Lewis’ artistry. As the song continues to makes its way to radio in the U.S. and Lewis’ profile grows — he recently peaked at No. 2 on the Next Big Sound chart — it’s the bare bones of acoustic renditions like “Be Alright” that really show what a rising talent like Lewis is capable of doing.
