Skylar Grey stopped by The Daily Show on Tuesday night (July 31) to play an intimate medley of songs that have made her one of the most sought-after songwriters and hook singers in modern pop.
The singer-songwriter took to the stage with only a piano and under the warm stage lights went through some of her biggest hits, starting with 2010’s “Love The Way You Lie,” which Grey prefaced with, “this first song I’m going to play is the song that changed my life, when it got into the hands of Eminem and Rihanna.”
Next, Grey sang a brief snippet of “Coming Home,” which she was asked to work on with P. Diddy and his group Dirty Money not long after the success of “Love the Way You Lie.” The singer then transitioned into the chorus of her 2013 hit “Clarity,” which ended up being used by Zedd and featured the singer Foxes. To wrap up her set Grey sang her latest anthem “Glorious,” a collaboration with Macklemore.
Though she’s effortlessly slipped between being behind-the-scenes and in the spotlight, Grey’s performance proved why she’s remained such a go-to collaborator, as her voice soared from heartbreak, to sadness, hope and joy.
