Coldplay have a new album to plug, but the band took a few minutes out from Everyday Life duties to give fans at BBC Radio 1’s Maida Vale Studios in London a special treat on Thursday when they covered Crystal Waters’ beloved 1991 house classic “Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless).”
The unplugged version of the dance track came after the band ran through Everyday Life singles “Orphans” “Arabesque” with a full orchestra as well as “Lovers in Japan” from Viva La Vida during the Future Sounds with Annie Mac set.
With singer Chris Martin posted up at a grand piano surrounded by his bandmates and a string section, Coldplay gave the propulsive track a jazzy, lounge vibe as Martin served up the signature “la-da-dee-la-da-da” chrous.
It was a nice treat for the band’s fans, especially since they recently announced that there will be no tour in support of the double album until they can find a more environmentally-sustainable way to hit the road.
