After the release of Free in 2015, Cody Simpson said goodbye to his solo career and took a new turn in his music journey. Launching Cody Simpson & The Tide in 2017, the singer/songwriter released the EP Wave One that same year, delivering fans a summer soundtrack featuring strong surf, rock and psychedelic influences.
Now, The Tide is unveiling the video for their single “Underwater,” premiering exclusively on Billboard.
The video, directed by Taylor Curran, kicks off with a clip of Simpson singing and strumming on his guitar in front of a huge screen, being projected on by liquidy, blue visuals.
During the song’s chorus, viewers are presented with a series of beautiful underwater visuals of a dancing couple, shot in black-and-white. The surreal underwater bits are interspersed with clips of Simpson in front of the blue screen, bringing viewers back to reality during the verses.
“I’m stoked about our new single ‘Underwater!’” Simpson told Billboard. “Huge shout-out to Billboard for premiering the video, and to YouTube for providing us with cutting-edge gear to shoot with!”
