Joining the likes of fellow part-YouTubers, part-musicians Gabbie Hana and Queen Naija, vlogger Cody Johns is adding to his online resume with “Jackpot,” a single he is releasing exclusively through Billboard.
Much like his Internet persona, “Jackpot” is a pristine, bubbly pop record. “Took a gamble on a friendship/ I bet it all to make a move,” he sings in the track’s opening seconds, which he says is a reference to his wife Alexys, and the sometimes awkward early stages of a relationship.
“’Jackpot’ was inspired by the beginning stages of my relationship with my wife Alexys.” Johns explains in a statement. “It’s an anthem for everyone that is afraid to take that next step in their relationship, and go to being more than just friends… This was such a fun song to write, and I am so excited to share it with everyone and hope it can inspire someone to take that next step.”
This is the latest drop from the YouTuber, who has recently released a string of other singles, including “Trust Me,” “Tropical Romance” and “There You Are.” In corresponding uploads on his YouTube channel, he encourages his fans to take part in #streamteam, which is seemingly an online initiative for fans to stream the song endlessly to get its numbers up.
Along with a growing music catalog, Johns has acted in a number of online shows, including YouTube Red Original’s Alexander IRL and Hulu’s original Dimension 404.
