If you haven’t made it to Las Vegas to see Cirque du Soleil’s mind-bending The Beatles LOVE, a new video celebrating the show’s 10th anniversary might inspire you to pack your bags. Apple Corps and Cirque have joined together for a video for the LOVE version of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.”
The clip for George Harrison‘s iconic Beatles ballad premiered on VEVO on Wednesday (June 29), mixing hand-sketch animation with dramatically lit ballet for a taste of the famed Montreal-bred troupe’s signature mix of dance, acrobatics and theater. Directed by Dandypunk, André Kasten and Leah Moyer, the video features new performance elements from the show, focusing on Dandypunk’s hand-drawn illustrations, which twirl alongside Cirque dancer Eira Glover.
According to a press release announcing the clip, all effects were created using projection mapping and captured live, in-camera, with no post-production CGI.
The video was created in honor of late Beatles producer Sir George Martin and Harrison; Martin’s 2006 recording session and string arrangements for the LOVE version of “Guitar” were his final pieces of work. To date, LOVE has staged 4,500 performances for a cumulative audience approaching eight million people.
