Since releasing her eighth studio album Lotus back in 2012, pop superstar Christina Aguilera has kept a low profile for the most part in regards to releasing new music. She dropped a single or two here and there over the years while always hinting at an album to come in the near future, but our first glimpse of hope came Tuesday (Jan. 23) when the singer took to her Instagram stories to reveal new music was “coming.”
Her Lotus album ended up being her least successful so far, debuting at No. 7 on the Billboard 200, and the two singles from the album, “Your Body” and “Just a Fool,” didn’t perform as well as her loyal legion of fans had expected. So what has Xtina been up to since 2012? Let’s take a look:
She recorded with music legend Tony Bennett.
Aguilera joined Bennett to sing “Steppin’ Out With My Baby” for his Viva Duets album. The song originally appeared in the 1948 musical film Easter Parade, where it was sung by Fred Astaire.
She recorded her own rendition of a holiday classic.
She recorded “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” with her fellow The Voice judge Cee Lo Green for his Cee Lo’s Magic Moment album.
She was featured on Pitbull’s single “Feel This Moment.”
The party song peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100.
She returned on and off to The Voice.
After leaving The Voice at the conclusion of the third season to focus on promoting Lotus, Aguilera returned for the fifth season in 2013 and then for the eighth and 10th seasons, where she won with her artist Alisan Porter and became the first female coach to win in the show’s history.

She acted on ABC’s musical drama series Nashville.
Before the musical drama moved to CMT, the “Beautiful” singer had a recurring role as singer Jade St. John on the show’s third season.
She released her powerful and moving song “Change.”
In June 2016, Aguilera released her song “Change,” which was dedicated to the victims of the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting and The Voice alum Christina Grimmie, who was fatally shot in Orlando the day before. The proceeds from the song were donated to the National Compassion Fund to benefit the victims’ families.
She released a song for Netflix’s The Get Down.
In August 2016 Aguilera released the song “Telepathy,” featuring disco legend Nile Rodgers, for the soundtrack of the Netflix original series The Get Down.
She starred in The Emoji Movie.
The pop singer used her vocals for a reason other than singing to voice the characgter Akiko Glitter in the 2017 film.
