Rising alt-pop singer Christian French debuts the video for “Head First” today (June 18), premiering exclusively on Billboard.
Produced by Andrew Luce, the bouncy song features a bit of a R&B influence. “Feeding off adrenaline, speeding through my heart/ You walk a little closer and I feel it coming on,” the 22-year-old sings.
The accompanying video, which was directed and edited by Angelo Kritikos, features the artist and his love interest intertwined as he clearly falls so head-over-heels in love. It also features shots of French singing in red, blue and neutral lights, creating a pretty dark tone for the whole clip.
“I wanted a consistent push-pull feeling throughout the song — with this girl keeping me so intrigued and excited with the love she’s giving, but also having a mysterious separation that keeps me equally as hooked,” French tells Billboard. “This little bit of contrast with her being separated drives the ‘hypnotized’ feeling that the character has — wanting what he can’t fully have.”
“We captured a Los Angeles sunset from a rooftop, and used some red and blue lighting to accent the feeling at certain points in the song,” French adds. “Red and black to portray the ‘devilish’ side of being so helplessly into someone, versus blue and white to show a more ‘heaven-sent’ take on the situation.”
“Head First” is out via Disruptor Records. French is currently gearing up for his fall tour, which kicks off on Sept. 4 at Michigan’s Bling Pig.
