Sister duo CHLOE X HALLE took to the stage at Jimmy Kimmel Live Thursday night (March 22), performing their single “Happy Without Me” as fog wisped around their feet and a disco ball sparkled above them. The track, which is off the girls just-released debut album The Kids Are Alright, features Joey Bada$$, who didn’t make an appearance during the performance — but with the way the girls belted it out, they didn’t need any assistance on the Kimmel stage.
The girls, whose names are Chloe and Halle Bailey, had their big break when a YouTube rendition of Beyonce‘s “Pretty Hurts” caught the attention of Queen B herself. Shortly after, they released their debut EP Sugar Symphony in April of 2016 and served as Beyonce’s opening act for the European leg of her “Formation World Tour.”
The sisters recently told Billboard of the album, “This is three years of self-discovery, vulnerability, and growth, all put into one album. We’ve put our hearts and souls into every lyric, every beat.” After those three years, the girls are staying humble, but they’re definitely ready for success: “All we ever wanna do is inspire others to be themselves, and you know, selling all these records would be nice.”
