When the cat’s away, the mouse will play — and this week, when British DJ Julie Adenuga was away from presenting Beats 1, Charli XCX stepped in. The singer-songwriter played everything from The Sex Pistols to Diplo, interviewed a Pussy Riot member and talked Miley Cyrus. Between all the gabbing and grooving, she even threw in a new track.

XCX previewed “Vroom Vroom,” a track she worked on with Sophie. The song features a darker tone to her previous releases. Her vocals come in like a childhood chant before her breathy chorus comes in over a stripped-down beat.
