It doesn’t take much prodding to get Jimmy Fallon to hop up from behind his Tonight Show desk, grab a mic and sing one of his favorite songs. And it took even less for him to throw on a leather motorcycle jacket, mirrored shades and an attitude to channel Depeche Mode singer Dave Gahan for a fun mash-up bit featuring Charli XCX.
Bopping along to the keyboard bounce of the 1981 DM new wave classic “Just Can’t Get Enough,” Fallon rocked the stage in a grainy bit filmed to look like it was shot in the Reagan era. Less than a minute in, Charli shoved Jimmy aside with her HD neon-lit set as the tune seamlessly blended into the breakthrough hit she wrote for Icona Pop, “I Don’t Care.”
The two tracks eventually blended and the pair sang in perfect harmony for a live mash-up that had the audience up on their feet and clapping along to the insistent beat from house band The Roots.
Though the bit aired on Wednesday (Sept. 25), Charli had also stopped by the The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Sept. 16 to chat with Fallon about her new album, Charli, and perform the album track “Gone” with collaborator Christine and the Queens.
