There were a ton of great surprises for the cast of Scandal during their appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night (April 19), including a mesmerizing performance by Chaka Khan to close out the celebratory event. The entrancing soul singer capped the evening off with a performance of “I’m Every Woman.”
Surrounded by a full band, tie-dye LED lights and rocking all black with gold-plated earrings, the funky 65-year-old attacked the song with the same upbeat energy that she did in 1978. “I can sense your needs, like rain onto the seeds,” Khan belts as the lights behind her turn from tie-dye to red and purple, “I can make a rhyme, of confusion in your mind” the backup singers belt in harmony as they dance together.
While the Scandal series finale aired earlier Thursday night, the cast was in blissful spirits as they took the stage to talk about their time on the series, “I remember walking in and there were tissue boxes on everyone’s seats,” Guillermo Diaz, who played Huck in the series, said when asked if emotions ran wild during the final episode taping. “I used at least one whole box by myself,” Darby Stanchfield (Abby Whelan in the show) said as the crowd laughed. Scandal‘s main star Kerry Washington even revealed that she hasn’t seen the shows final three episodes, adding that it’s just too bittersweet to say goodbye: “I feel like once I watch it, then it’s really over.”
