Known for slaying a ballad or ten in her repertoire, Celine Dion abandoned her usual set list during Monday’s (Sept. 12) appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
After Ellen claimed that she wanted Celine to “keep growing as an artist,” the host slapped some rap lyrics on the Teleprompter for Dion to belt. The vocal powerhouse then zipped through melodic versions of Nelly‘s “Hot in Herre,” LMFAO‘s Lil Jon-assisted “Shots” (she also interpolated snippet of Sia’s “Chandelier”), Britney Spears‘ “Work Bitch” and Missy Elliott‘s “Work It.” Dion joked, “My career’s going to end tonight.”
The “My Heart Will Go On” songstress also spoke about the death of her husband, Rene Angelil, who passed away this past January at the age of 73 after a long battle with throat cancer. “It is tough, I have to admit,” she offered in another segment. “It’s part of our life, and life has imposed this on him. That was his destiny and I still feel extremely fortunate that he has given me three magnificent children—wonderful pieces of luggage.”
