Cara Delevingne brings awareness to homelessness in The Spencer Lee Band’s new music video for their song “River Water,” released Wednesday.
The video stars Delevingne, 26, as a homeless drug addict fighting her inner-demons on the streets and struggling to reclaim her life.
“River Water” is extremely personal for the band’s frontman Spencer Lee, who wrote the lyrics to the song when he was homeless in LA before he was discovered by manager Scooter Braun. Reflecting on his strong connection to the song and reclaiming ownership of his past, Lee ends the music video with simple text that reads, “Her story is my story.”
“Sometimes folks walk down the street and see a ‘homeless guy or girl’ and what I want people to realize is — that’s a person — just like you and me — struggling to get by,” Lee said in a press release. “I put it out in hopes it will raise awareness and compassion.”
“River Water” is a single from the band’s self-titled EP, released on Aug.17.
