Listening to Nashville-based singer CAPPA’s new indie-pop track “Waste My Time” is definitely not a waste of time, and luckily you can stream it today (Nov. 16) for the first time exclusively at Billboard.
CAPPA (born Carla Cappa) says she finally found a breakthrough with “Waste My Time” (CONGO Records via Spinnin’) after a long period of creative limbo.
“‘Waste My Time’ is the first single I’m releasing in over a year,” she tells Billboard. “I got in a weird funk for a while where nothing was inspiring me musically and I had too many people telling me what they liked and didn’t like. ‘Waste My Time’ is different musically than anything I’ve done in the past and I knew right away that I wanted to release it. It’s about being stuck in a cyclical on/off relationship and knowing that, eventually, you have to break the habit.”
The track bounces on familiar uptempo dance pop beats, but the lyrics instantly distinguish this as something brand new.
She sings: “I don’t want to work it out / I don’t want to talk right now / I don’t want to talk, I don’t wanna talk / I don’t want to play that game / I know that it’s all the same, all the same, all the same / Don’t even waste my time.”
CAPPA released a self-titled EP in April 2015 with her single “Hush” later featured in a Victoria’s Secret ad. Her first U.S. tour came in fall 2016 after the release of her sophomore EP, Queen of Hearts.
