Camila Cabello shared a studio pic on Monday night (Feb. 27), in which she’s working with producer Frank Dukes (Travis Scott, Drake) on new music. There’s not much more to say other than Cabello looks super chill in the snap (though she’s oddly perched on the recording console) and it seems like there are plenty of apples to go around for everyone in a bowl behind Duke’s laptop.
Recent Billboard cover star Cabello, who turns 20 on Friday (March 3), is hard at work on her debut solo album, due this fall. In addition to Dukes, she’s logged time in the studio with Andrew “Pop” Wansel (Kehlani, Alessia Cara), who told Billboard, “I never underestimated her talent, but I was not expecting her to have such a powerful vision,” with Dukes adding, “It’s a real collaboration… sometimes it’s like a band just jamming.”
The cover story revealed that the trio are working on a handful of songs that skillfully blend Cabello’s love for Rihanna’s ANTI, R&B-pop circa Alicia Keys’ 2007 song “No One,” a touch of Shakira, and, given her heritage, Cuban music. They said they want to open the as-yet-untitled album with a “dusty, piano-clanging cut called ‘Havana,'” while previewing an upbeat Caribbean bang that has a touch of Sia for the writer.
“Camila is an incredible songwriter,” said Epic Records chairman/CEO Antonio “L.A.” Reid, who — along with Simon Cowell — assembled her former band, Fifth Harmony, for The X Factor and still has Cabello on his roster. “She is working overtime.”
