Camila Cabello has been dropping singles almost weekly since she announced that her new album, Romance, is on its way. On Wednesday (Nov. 13), she revealed that the album will be arriving on Dec. 6, unveiling the 2019 Renaissance-esque cover art.
“I just wanted this album to sound like what falling in love feels like, pretty impossible thing to do but I can say I gave it all I had,” she wrote along with the announcement. “I’ve never lived as much life as I did writing this album. It was messy, and beautiful, unforgettable and at times so painful I wish I could forget, it was excruciatingly consuming and impossible not to get lost in, it was mine… and now it’s yours.”
The album, which follows her self-titled 2018 debut, will feature previously-released lovestruck singles “Liar,” “Shameless,” “Cry for Me” and “Easy.”
Here are a few things we’re hoping for in the new album cycle:
1. More raw and real lyrics
Cabello’s already-released singles have felt like diary entries-turned-musical, and we’re loving the heartwrenching emotional rollercoaster she’s putting us on. The album is called Romance, so we’re hoping for more raw portrayals of what love in your early 20s can feel like–from the falling in love and falling out of love to the flirting, lust, questioning and all-consuming feelings that come along with relationships.
2. A collaboration
Her debut album only featured one collaboration, with Young Thug on “Havana.” And though she’s teamed up with a number of artists for songs since then, we’d love to see some of her famous friends hop on a Romance track. Maybe Taylor Swift (whose own recent album was coincidentally titled Lover) can collab with Cabello to create the ultimate love song?
3. Shawn Mendes
Okay, we know. The couple already teamed up for the Hot 100 chart topper, “Senorita.” But would it be so bad if Mendes lent his characteristic falsetto to another song on Cabello’s album? We’d love to see an emotional tune about falling in love with each other.
4. Creative music videos
Cabello’s imagination has run wild with this album, and we’d love to see her storytelling unfold more in the music videos. Her recent clips have been equally funny, sexy and intense–exactly what we pictured when thinking about an album focused on love. More, please!
5. Spanish singing
The songstress has always been proud of her Cuban heritage, and she’s even nominated for a Latin Grammy this year for her Alejandro Sanz collab, “Mi Persona Favorita.” We loved hearing her sing in Spanish, and it would touching to include some of her ancestral tongue in her new album.
