Rising pop singer-songwriter Brynn Elliott is debuting the lyric video for her inquisitive song “Internet You,” premiering exclusively on Billboard today (Feb. 19).
The synth-pop track is the latest single off of Elliott’s debut EP, Time of Our Lives, with lyrics that question the realness of someone she met through the internet as the coffee-themed video portrays her words. “What in the world am I doing here?/ Listening to you talk, wondering when you’ll stop/ Talking ’bout nothing, taking me nowhere/ It was all fake, none of it was true/ Can I run away with the internet you?/ Can I run away with the internet you?,” she ponders on the catchy chorus.
The recent Harvard graduate tells Billboard that the song is meant to remind people that sometimes what we see on the internet doesn’t translate to real life. “I wrote this song about what it means to live in the digital age,” she explains. “We spend so much time curating images online that we forget to put that same energy into our real everyday lives and relationships. I’ve experienced this in myself and in dating. It’s also something I talk quite a bit about with my friends.”
The lyric video also features unique latte art from the talented Baristart (Michael Breach). Elliott, who has played with artists like Alanis Morissette, Brandi Carlile and Allen Stone, says her love of coffee inspired the video. “I’m excited to have partnered with Baristart for this lyric video — I love coffee and everything about it,” she says. “But also coffee is a modern connecting point. Meeting up for coffee is one space where true connection and authentic interaction is happening nowadays so there’s definitely a deeper metaphor at work behind the fun latte art in the video.”
Elliott is also gearing up to open for Why Don’t We during their 8 Letters tour, which kicks off on March 20. “Playing live is my absolute favorite part of what I do and I am grateful to have the opportunity to open the show each night for an awesome group of guys,” she says.
