If over the past year you’ve spent anytime at a club on Manhattan’s Lower East Side there’s a very good chance you’ve heard and seen Blu DeTiger. Along with her signature metallic blue bass, the NYU Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music student has been cutting her teeth in the DJ booth at venues including Public Arts and other fresh, trendy spots around the city for a bit now.
During these DJ sets you may have heard Blu spin her debut single “In My Head,” which officially drops today (Jan. 23) on HeavyRoc Music along with a vibrant video premiering exclusively on Billboard. The video, directed by The Knocks‘ Ben Ruttner, is the 20-year old’s take on the eccentric tea party scene of Alice in Wonderland, but replace the tea with bottle service and the Mad Hatter’s guests with a gang of BRATZ dolls in matching latex club uniforms. Blu describes it herself as “child-like imagination and innocence with a twist.”
Blu says she wants her debut single to be “one that all my friends could spin in their sets,” and with its addictive beat and catchy melody, that is sure to be the case. Catch Blu DeTiger supporting The Knocks on their New York Narcotic tour kicking off on Thursday (Jan. 24) in Vancouver. Ticket information is available here.
