Blood Orange has announced their fourth album, Negro Swan, due out on Aug. 24 via Domino Records.
The release follows Blood Orange’s critically acclaimed third effort, Freetown Sound, which came out in 2016. Devonté Hynes, the mastermind behind the R&B outfit, elaborated on the themes of Negro Swan.
“My newest album is an exploration into my own and many types of black depression, an honest look at the corners of black existence, and the ongoing anxieties of queer/people of color,” he writes in the press release announcing the album. “A reach back into childhood and modern traumas, and the things we do to get through it all. The underlying thread through each piece on the album is the idea of HOPE, and the lights we can try to turn on within ourselves with a hopefully positive outcome of helping others out of their darkness.”
An LP release will follow the digital release. Additionally, there will be a deluxe double-LP pressed on limited edition gold vinyl with a double-sided 24 x 36 poster. The indie retail version deluxe double-LP is pressed on orange vinyl.
Pre-order the album digitally here or from the Domino Mart here.
Hynes has released a trailer and the artwork for the album on his Instagram. Both posts are available below.
