What better way to celebrate the release of your debut full-length record than a video where you get to go wild in the streets? That’s exactly what Blackpink did at midnight on Thursday (Oct. 1) to honor The Album, which was accompanied by the high-energy video for the track “Lovesick Girls.”
The k-pop superstars premiered the visual during the first episode of the new YouTube Originals music series Released, and it is definitely a feast for the eyes. The clip opens with Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo and Rosé chilling in a pink Cadillac in a field before flashing forward to the ladies getting into a heated discussion in a bombed out, graffiti-covered car on an urban street singing, “We are the lovesick girls/ But we were born to be alone/ Yeah we were born to be alone/ Yeah we were born to be alone/ But why we still looking for love.”
Lovesickness strikes them in many different ways, from moody walks in a day-glo enchanted forest, to guitar-smashing outbursts, choreographed late-night street dances, sledgehammer attacks on car headlights, breathless midnight sprints through the city, angsty therapy sessions, a trip to the paintball range and a proper food fight in a bodega.
The bouncy song comes after the record-breaking debut of their Selena Gomez collab, “Ice Cream,” and “How You Like That.” The eight-track album also features the Cardi B collab “Bet You Wanna”
