Blackbear has been busy in 2019. He dropped his fifth album, Anonymous, in April, and is currently trekking around North America on his Dead 2 The World Tour, which wraps in Las Vegas on June 23. But in between being on stage and in the studio, the 28-year-old singer also makes fitness a priority — and now, fans can get on his level.
For his Takeover Tuesday playlist, Blackbear revealed the 28 songs he’s lately been spinning at the gym, aptly titling it the “Bearfit Workout.”
“The reason I’m stoked on life is because I operate on a higher frequency,” Blackbear tells Billboard. “How do I get to that place, you ask? Health. And not the Hollywood health — good old-fashioned eating habits and exercise.”
The Bearfit Workout is a mix of hip-hop and punk rock, from Waka Flocka Flame’s 2010 single “Hard in the Paint” “The Don” to Linkin Park’s One More Light deep cut “Sorry For Now.” Most of the tracks come from the 2010s — like Frank Ocean’s wavy “Lost” from 2012’s Channel Orange and Blackbear’s own 2017 2Chainz collab “Gucci Linen” — but there’s a few throwbacks, like Jay-Z’s 2003 classic “99 Problems” and The Smiths‘ electric 1984 hit “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now.”
Blackbear also makes sure to incorporate some newer jams, like DaBaby’s “Sure,” Rosalia’s “Con Altura” and YG’s “In the Dark,” as well as breakouts from the past year such as City Girls (“Act Up”) and Fever 333 (“Made An America”). And those who take the Bearfit Workout all the way to the end will get a nice little surprise from the one and only RuPaul, rounding out the gym time with a sashay, shantay.
