Billie Eilish mourns a broken heart on “When The Party’s Over,” released today (Oct. 17).
The lyrics of “When The Party’s Over” are a sharply insightful musing on the end of a relationship, not unlike Eilish’s other songs, which also demonstrate a maturity well beyond her 16 years of age. Here, Eilish sings over angelic hums and a quiet piano, with her haunting and soulful voice swelling up from a whisper.
Eilish first gained recognition for her viral debut single “Ocean Eyes” when she was just 13 years old. Now, the singer has an EP, Don’t Smile At Me, under her belt, as well as the chart-topping duet “Lovely” that she sang alongside Khalid, earning her a position on Billboard’s 2018 21 Under 21.
In an Instagram post announcing the song’s release, Eilish spoke about how much work went into it. “This one was IMPOSSIBLE to record i literally killed myself making this song lol,” Eilish wrote. “I hope you enjoy.”
Eilish’s debut full-length album is due in 2019.
