On Thursday night, Billie Eilish and Spotify’s immersive experience kicked off in Los Angeles, where fans can visit different rooms that reflect each of the tracks from the singer’s just-released debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? Eilish caught up with Billboard’s Chelsea Briggs on the red carpet, chatting about a potential Justin Bieber collaboration, her song with Rosalia and what her opinion is on K-pop.
Asked about her recent new Intagram follower Bieber, Eilish tells Billboard that she was sitting backstage at Ellen when she got the notification and a DM from the pop star. “We talked about making some stuff, you know! It was crazy, though. The first thing he DM’ed me was a screenshot of, I guess he scrolled up and saw a message I had sent in 2014.”
Eilish explains with a laugh that back in 2014, she sent Bieber a message, “Hey Justin, I just wanted to talk. How are you? Please answer,” which he sent her a screenshot of with an “LOL.”
Pressed with the question of whether fans can expect a future collaboration with Bieber, Eilish shrugs and replies, “You’ll see.”
Speaking of collaborations, Eilish also opens up about her recently announced song with Rosalia. “We only had one session and it was right before I left for tour, and she’s been on tour, I’ve been on tour…we’ve been busy,” she says. “I actually love the song. It’s half in Spanish for both of us, half in English. It’s so beautiful. I hope something happens with it. I’m sure it will. We’re both in love with it, so I think there’s a future for it.”
Briggs next asks Eilish if she listens to much K-pop music, or if she would ever consider joining forces with an act like BTS or BLACKPINK, to which she replies that she hasn’t actually listened to much of their music but she would like to.
“I should though, right? I haven’t, though, so I’m definitely gonna look for it,” Eilish says. “But it’s cute, though. I think it’s really dope. They work so hard too. I’ve seen videos of them performing and damn, they go crazy.”
