Meet Oscar & The Wolf. The Belgian alt-pop artist (real name Max Colombie) is a household name in his home country, selling out 20,000-seat venues and set to headline Pukkelpop Festival alongside Rihanna and LCD Soundsystem next month, aided by the success of lush singles like “Strange Entity” and (a personal favorite) “Princes” off his European-released LP Entity.
But after getting the attention of tastemaker label Neon Gold Records, the buzzy artist is making his stateside debut today (July 28) with the arrival of his latest single “The Game.”
Produced by Noah Breakfast (Wet, Ty Dolla $ign, Christine and the Queens), his U.S. debut is a grittier, late-night club take on the sound of his past releases. “I’d describe it as tears on the dance floor in the dirty twerk remix,” he tells Billboard. “I really liked [Noah’s] work with Christine And The Queens and Ty Dolla $ign, so when we finally found some time to hit the studio in LA, it really all tied together quickly. We really tried to capture enigmatic sounds of late night clubbing. As a soundtrack to an eventful night out; the adventure and drama, the mixture of audacity and uncertainty.”
