There’s a very good chance that you have heard Bazzi’s viral sensation “Mine,” which currently sits at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 (chart dated April 14). But while pop fans may not be able to stop singing Bazzi’s breakout hit, they also may not know much about the 20-year-old singer behind it — but luckily Billboard is here to help with that.
Andrew Bazzi, who grew up in Kenton, Michigan, reveals that the first place he ever performed was at his sixth grade talent show and that the first song he ever wrote was called “Rock With Me,” which he has no plans of ever releasing. Bazzi also shared some non-music confessions, like his love for The Bachelor, his laptop (“gotta get that Netflix”) and Instagram (“I just like pictures and visuals and stuff”).
Back on the topic of music, Bazzi shares, “What motivates me is connecting with people and making everybody feel loved.” He also discusses why people should listen to his music, explaining that it is “real and honest and vulnerable” and that it is “something that everybody can connect to and relate to.”
