On Saturday night, the stars came out to play at Barbra Streisand and husband James Brolin’s abode. Lady Gaga, Ryan Murphy, John Travolta and Kelly Preston dined in for what Barbra called “a wonderful evening.”

Although random at first glance, the guest list is linked by American Horror Story: Hotel and American Crime Story co-creator Ryan Murphy. In the former series, Lady Gaga will be playing a hotel owner named Elizabeth, who — in Murphy’s words — “is consumed with art and fashion…and has a nefarious plan.” Travolta, on the other hand, will both produce and act as O.J. Simpson’s “dream team” defense attorney Robert Shapiro in the latter series.
As for the hostess’ tie to Mr. Murphy? Well, according to Vanity Fair, Glee was “basically a six-season love letter to Barbra.” So there you have it. Whether or not the night was a celebration of the writer-producer, it was clear that Murphy has a way of summoning high-powered Hollywood gatherings with the best of ’em.
