It’s been quite a comeback year for the Backstreet Boys. Back in February, their new studio album DNA topped the Billboard 200, marking their first No. 1 album in 19 years. They’ve got a worldwide arena tour lined up for the summer. The quintet took that momentum to the iHeartRadio Music Awards stage tonight (March 14) with an engaging, past-meets-present performance.
One by one, the BSB members appeared throughout the L.A. Microsoft Theater crowd — Brian Littrell even got a fist-bump from Steven Tyler — and traded off the opening lines of their recent single, “No Place.” They reached the stage during the climax of the lovelorn track and segued into their eternal classic, “I Want It That Way.” Well-trained from their ongoing Vegas residency (and countless other performances of their signature song) Backstreet Boys crooning and belting the iconic lines of “I Want It That Way” was, as always, a big moment.
As for their recent single’s radio performance, “No Place” currently sits at No. 23 on Billboard’s Adult Pop Songs chart. In six weeks on the tally, it’s peaked at No. 20. And as for the throwback, “I Want It That Way” peaked at No. 6 on the Hot 100 back in June of 1999.
