Singer-songwriter Aston Merrygold is ready to make the world dance with his latest music video. But first, he wants everyone to “Get Stupid.”
The former JLS member premieres the fun video for his song “Get Stupid” on Billboard today (May 24), which sees Merrygold and dancers of all sizes and backgrounds showing off their best moves as the high-energy track plays. While the video features impressive choreography, Merrygold stresses that the song is simply just about enjoying life — whether you dance through it or not.
“‘Get Stupid’ is really a reminder to everyone how important it is to have fun,” Merrygold tells Billboard. “Live life, be free, just get stupid once in a while! There’s so much drama in the world, sometimes we just need to someone to remind us.”
As indicated in the video, Merrygold’s favorite way to get stupid is by dancing, which he has further proven by his most recent career endeavors. Along with putting out new music, Merrygold has competed on the UK’s version of Dancing With the Stars, Strictly Come Dancing, and was cast in Rip It Up, a 60’s-themed live touring dance show that kicks off in September. The 30-year-old even opened his own dance studio in the UK called BASE, where the “Get Stupid” video was filmed.
The “Get Stupid” video was made in conjunction with mysnapp, an app that allows viewers to buy the fashion seen in the visual, including exclusive merchandise designed by Merrygold himself that’s only available through the app. The song was also featured in a commercial for the new Samsung Galaxy S9, launching the track — which Merrygold originally released in 2015 — back onto the pop scene.
