Ariana Grande channeled one of her heroes when she covered Whitney Houston‘s hit “I Have Nothing” in concert Wednesday night at Los Angeles’ Forum.
She first announced that she was bringing out “one of the most incredible songwriters of all time,” David Foster, who wrote and produced Houston’s 1992 hit from The Bodyguard soundtrack.

“We’re gonna do one of my favorite songs of all time that I actually grew up [singing],” Grande told the crowd, sitting atop a piano. “It was my go-to song to sing at the gay bar, karaoke bar, anywhere. This is such a surreal experience. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage the incredible David Foster.”
A voice can then be overheard saying, “These kids don’t even know who David Foster is” — possibly true, but they scream as if he’s Justin Bieber all the same.
